*_”I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.”_* 1 Corinthians 3:6

When teams are formed, roles are to be given to people so they know their part and play them well. These roles must be given according to a person’s *ability* *position*, *passion*, and *character.*

✔️ *Ability* can the person play the part you want him to play? Or does he have the potential?

Matthew 25:15, says, _“He gave $5,000 to one, $2,000 to another, and $1,000 to the last— *dividing it in proportion to their abilities* —and then left on his trip.”_ (TLB). Notice that He didn’t give them money according to how much He loved each of them, He gave them according to what each could handle. Never give more than the person can handle, no matter how close the person is to you. Responsibilities should be according to the person’s ability.

Abilities can be *Cultivated* *Imparted* *Sharpened* Through proper training.

Train people for the roles you want them to play. *Never expect people to do what you never trained them to do*

✔️ *Passion* what does the person really want to do? What excites them?

When someone comes to me asking what department they should join in church, I ask them about what they enjoy doing. People are at their best when they are doing what they love to do.

Ability without passion is nothing. One who lacks passion lacks necessary energy to get the job done. He cannot connect to the work. He has no love for it. He lacks creativity. He has diminished motivation and will ultimately burnout. If you put such a person in an important role, you have to push him to play his part, why not give his role to someone who is passionate about it?

If a person has ability but lacks passion it is probably because he doesn’t have a big WHY for the WHAT you are giving him to do. Make time to motivate him. And also let him spend some time with you… There are things that are taught, and there are things that are caught. Passion is one of those things that can be caught.

✔️ *Position* Can he lead?

Never appoint a person in a leadership position who isn’t leading. If he can’t lead without a title, he won’t lead with one. Positions don’t make leaders, they just give them room to manifest.

*Positions can wait.* Give them work to do without titles first, and appoint them only when they prove themselves _. “Don’t appoint people to church leadership positions too hastily…”_ (1 Timothy 5:22, MSG).

✔️ *Character* what is the person’s way of life like? Can his character handle this role?

Character is fundamental to effective leadership because good character builds trust, and without trust, people will not follow you. Without followers, obviously, one cannot lead. Remember, you are building a team that will multiply itself. Everyone must be a leadership material. One with a bad character is not ready for big things. Help him work on his character before entrusting him with so much.

_*Character can be developed*_

Have some one on one mentorship class with him and help him with his character. The more a person grows in the word, the better their character gets.

*CLOSING STATEMENT*

_Leadership is about seeing in people what they don’t see in themselves and helping them bring it forth to the benefit of themselves and the team…You haven’t been called for perfect people, you’ve been called to perfect people._
