Topic: HONOUR YOUR PARENTS (God Promised A Better Life For Those Who Do)

“Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” Ephesians 6:2, 3

Our theme scripture doesn’t tell us to honour our parents if they’ve been good to us, no condition is given upon which we are to base our honour. We are to honour them simply because they are our parents.

We are to honour them for our sake, it says, “that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth” (Ephesians 6:3). That is to say, if you want a long and prosperous life you must honour your parents. If you don’t honour them, it doesn’t matter what else you do, it will not be well with you, and your life will be shortened.

There are sicknesses that go only by honour.

There are circumstances that change only by honour.

There are blessings that come only through honour.

We cannot gain by effort what God meant for us to gain by honouring our parents.

To “honour” simply means to respect, to recognize, to Esteem. Do whatever you can to show respect, give recognition, and esteem to your parents. Show honour in the way you greet them, in the way you address them, the way you respond to them. Don’t talk to your parents in an unrespectful manner, it will cost you.

See how you can help make their life easier and better. Think of ways to honour them.

If you are living with them, help out with chores. Do whatever you can in your power to show honour to them. If you are not living with them, remember them when money comes in. Honour them with your substance. Learn to bless your parents materially. If you forget them, things will not go well with you. Try by all means to maintain a healthy relationship with them.

Now, who are your parents? Is it the people who gave birth to you or the people who brought you up? Both! If you were brought up by some other people, and the people who brought you forth into the world are still alive, you’ve got to honour them both.

Find means and ways to honour your parents. There is no substitute for honouring our parents. This is the first commandment with promise.

CONFESSION

According to God’s word, I honour my parents in truth and indeed, and as I do, everything goes well with me; and nothing can cut my life short, not sickness, accidents, stress or anything whatsoever. Hallelujah!
