How Are You Using Your Tongue?

HOW ARE YOU USING YOUR TONGUE?

One of the deadliest sins of the tongue which we must guard our mouths from is lying. When we allow our tongues to lie, mislead, or deceive others, we are bringing cursing upon ourselves. Among the seven things listed in the Word that God hates is a lying tongue:

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. (Proverbs 6:16-19, NIV)

When you speak the truth, you speak life!

When you speak lies or deceive, you speak death!

When we make promises to others or to God and do not keep them, we are lying and it gives Satan an opportunity to keep us from receiving the blessings of God. If you realize you have failed to be honest or if you have made a promise to someone or to God and have not fulfilled it, acknowledge it. Repent and ask God to enable you to keep your tongue from speaking lies. Before you make promises, be determined that you will fulfill them.

Satan has entered into the Church and gained a major stronghold where he is bringing confusion, strife, and division through believers who have failed to discipline their tongues and are lying and breaking promises.

We must have a breakthrough! We cannot continue to lie to others. We cannot continue to use our tongues to speak forth both blessing and curses, blessing God and cursing our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Pray about each of the following areas before you leave your quiet place today. Are you using your tongue to…

Murmur and complain?
Lie?
Deceive?
Gossip?
Slander?
Backbite?

Make this declaration:

With God’s help, I will no longer complain, lie, deceive, gossip, slander, or backbite. I am taking control over my tongue.
