” *_Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour”_* Ecclesiastes 4:9

To build an effective team, cleary define the following:

1. *Purpose* Why are you coming up with this team?

When purpose is unknown, success is far from sight.

If it is a department, people in it should know why it exist, and why they are a part of it. They cannot work well unless they function with a clear purpose in mind…

Remember, people can bear any *WHAT* if they have a big *WHY*

2. *Goals/objectives* What do you want to accomplish with this team?

*_Goals are things the team aspires to achieve daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly…*
_
If you aim at nothing, you will hit nothing. Success is not by chance, it is by choice. To be a success a team needs clear goals which can provide framework to *measure progress*, to *define potential risk*, and to *identify opportunities for collaborative opportunities*.

If you know where you are going, it is easy to measure progress.

3. *Roles*

People who build successful teams never forget that every person on a team has a role to play, and every role plays its part in contributing to the bigger picture (vision or goal). Without that perspective, the team cannot accomplish its goal, whether the team’s “game” is sports, business, family, ministry, or government. _A team must know who does what; the importance of each team member should be clear_ .

As a leader, write a role description for each member. This should include:

✔️ The part the person needs to play

✔️ Why that part should be played well

✔️ How the person will contribute to the realization of the big picture in that role

✔️ Level of accountability expected

✔️ And all the responsibilities the role includes

So that the person in that position can understand the depth of the responsibility and how valued they are in the team. Otherwise it can lead to mistrust, confusion, mistakes, inappropriate or, misuse of resources and lack of motivation within the team.

There should also be flexibility in the roles so that creative ability is not restricted, and everyone can express themselves. This can mean that resources are not maximally used.

Remember to put the right people in the right roles. It is your duty to see potential in others and help them maximize it.

4. *Methodology*what is your *HOW?* The how of actualizing the the goal. How will it be done?

Cleary indicate the strategy or approach you are going to employ. It is one thing to know where you are going, it is another thing to know how to get there. Plan your how. This should include the team will combine the work together.

5. *Relationships*How are you together?

A team’s effectiveness is enhanced when people take time out to spend together, beyond the scope of working- beyond that a relationship is enhanced. Then we can produce more and achieve the targets.

✔️Spend one on one time with your members, let them know that you care for them as individuals.

✔️ If we are good together we can work well together. Encourage people to know each other and care for one another in the team. Members should be able to visit each other and pray for one another. This can’t be done unless the leader ensures it is done.

✔️Pray together, fellowship, even over a cup of tea – target for all this is to build effective team members

6. *Who to provide leadership*

The success of a team depends on the success of its leader. Set leaders who will lead indeed, and not monuments.

The leaders must be strong and faced and have the ability to resolve conflicts. They must be able to influence the team to its destination… Don’t just appoint them, *train them*

*CLOSING STATEMENT*

_Leadership is about bringing people together around a certain goal, inspiring them to become an active part in achieving it, supporting them, giving them guidance, answering their questions and helping them resolve the problems they face on your journey to accomplishment
