“And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, and was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. “ Matthew 17:1,2
Jesus had multitudes, from the multitudes, He had 70, and then 12, from the twelve he had 3. He was and still is the Master of team building and teamwork.
He knew that there would be no growth nor continuity to His ministry unless He builds people and teams at different levels.
He poured Himself in people and multiplied His ministry, but He did it at different levels, there are those He focused on the most. These were people who were going to help Him lead His disciples and His entire ministry
These were Peter, James and John. They were His closest people. They were present at major events others were not privileged to attend. He taught them, and revealed himself to them more than He did to the rest. He made sure they understood His heart. They were what you may call His “inner circle.” TO DO GREAT THINGS BUILD GREAT TEAMS part 9
All great leaders have a great inner circle.
Your inner circle determines the success of your work. These are people who
- Have high influence in your team. You increase your influence as you work with them and help them grow.
- They add the highest value to your team – they have complimentary gifts which they are using very well to help others fulfil their purpose in God and in the team.
- You can’t do without them. They are so good at what they do, and so dependable, the team needs them to move forward.
- They are teachable and the most loyal .
- They have a good report among the brethren and the unsaved, and they are good with people
If you don’t have an inner circle yet, don’t wait for one, build one!
Don’t focus on developing everyone. Focus on people you can train who will help you develop others. The best way to lead is, to lead with and through people.
2 Timothy 2:2, “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also”
In the above scripture, Paul is writing to Timothy, one of the people in His inner circle. He tells him to share what He has heard from him to people who are faithful enough to share with others also. TO DO GREAT THINGS BUILD GREAT TEAMS part 9
1. Who is your Timothy?
2. Does he have people under his influence?
3. Do the people under his influence have people under their influence?
Invest more in your inner circle than you do in your leadership team, and invest more in your leadership team than you do in your members. Meet with them more and raise them. Only those who have been raised can raise others. TO DO GREAT THINGS BUILD GREAT TEAMS part 9
Build people who can continue your work in your absence: people who understand your heart and are like-minded. ” But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort when I know your state. For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.” (Philippians 2:19, 20).
You can only be as effective as your inner circle
