*TWO KINDS OF REST* (Part 1)
=================

By *_Pastor Jack Siame_*

You don’t need to die before your soul can rest in peace, your soul can rest while you live, that’s the message of the Gospel. We are going to talk about TWO KINDS OF REST:

*1. GIVEN-REST*

*2. FOUND-REST*

◾️ *_The Original Plan_* _(God wanted man to live in His rest)_

In Genesis, we see that God made man on the sixth day of creation and rested on the seventh. Meaning Man’s first day on earth was God’s resting day. Why didn’t He make man on the first day or on a second day? It’s because He wanted everything to have been ready when He brought man on the scene; He wanted man to enter into His finished works. Showing us that man was never created for struggles, He was created to work in God’s rest.

◾️ _*Sin Changed Things*_ ( _Man brought struggles on himself through sin_)

It is when man sinned that he was required to toil for his own provisons; He was disconnected from God’s supply in the Garden, and was told to work the ground and struggle for ends meat. TWO KINDS OF REST part 1

◾️ *_The Old Testament Command To Rest On The Seventh Day_* ( _foretaste of what was to come_)

In the Old Testament God, in his mercy, seeing how hard his people were working and struggling, He commanded them to rest on the seventh day and do no work. He wanted them to have a feel of the rest He had originally planned for all mankind. Remember: *_”…The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath”_* (Mark 2:27). TWO KINDS OF REST part 1

◾️ *_From Egypt To Canaan_* ( _But He spoke of another day_)

When He brought the Children of Isreal out of Egypt, a land of bondage, His plan was to bring them into Canaan, a land of rest. But when they came into Canaan, they rested from their wandering life, settled, and prospered, but He spoke of another day, meaning Joshua couldn’t give them the rest God had originally planned. _*”For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God.”*_ (Hebrews 4:8, 9 NIV). TWO KINDS OF REST part 1

◾️ *_Christ; The Real Shabbat_* ( _The fulfilment of God’s plan_)

In Colossians 2:16-17, Paul reveals that the Sabbath was only a shadow of things to come and is now fulfilled in Christ, meaning Christ is the real Sabbath – the day of rest that God spoke about. That is why Christ was bold enough to tell the people *_”Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”_* (Matthew 11:28-30). ◾️ _*Not Every Christian Is Enjoying This Given-rest…*_ ( _For they have not all believed in His finished works_)

He is the rest Hebrews 4:1-11 talks about; a rest that is available to all who come to God through Christ, but is not necessarily functional in every Christian, for not all of them have ceased from their own struggles, because they haven’t all believed in His finished works. When they believe they will enter His rest. *_”For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.”_* (Hebrews 4:10). TWO KINDS OF REST part 1

There are those who are still wrestling with sin, haven’t believed in Christ’s victory over sin for them. And others are trying to defeat the devil, they haven’t believed Hebrews 2:14 and Colossians 2:15 which shows us that Christ defeated the devil in His death, and He did it all for us… TWO KINDS OF REST part 1

◾️ *_The Real Sabbath Is A Person, Not A Day Of The Week_* ( _Why we worship on Sundays…_)

In Christ, we rest every day, not just on Saturday, and are free to worship in truth and in spirit every day. The reason we always have services on Sunday is not because we have moved the Sabbath to Sunday, but because it is the day Christianity was made possible by the resurrection of Christ from the dead, and also because the early saints thought it okay to meet on Sundays: *_”Upon THE FIRST DAY of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.”_* (1 Corinthians 16:2).
