TWO KINDS OF REST (Part 2)

=================

By: Pastor-Jack Siame

Matthew 11:28-30 CEV

[28] If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I WILL GIVE YOU REST.

1. GIVEN-REST is the rest that you get by BELIEVING in what Jesus did for you. Another word for this rest is SALVATION.

◾️ Jesus; Our Substitute (What He suffered, He suffered for us…He suffered so we don’t have to)

Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection was vicarious, which means ‘an act undertaken by someone in another’s place.’ He suffered in your place, so you could rest eternally from suffering.

He wore a crown of thorns so we could become kings and wear the crown of glory.

He died so you could live.

He took your place that you might take His place. Your place was that of sin and death; His place was that of life and righteousness.

He took our sicknesses so we could take His health.

He was made sin that you might be made righteous, the righteousness of God.

He became poor that you might become rich.

He defeated Satan that you may have absolute power over Him, and live in total freedom.

Whatever He did, He did for you. He worked so you could enter His rest.

◾️ His Pain, Our Gain (No pain no gain)

The suffering of Christ was necessary for the salvation of man; salvation couldn’t have been accomplished otherwise. Only through suffering could He end suffering, and usher us into glory living.

Hebrews 2:10 ERV
_“God… wanted many people to BE HIS CHILDREN and SHARE HIS GLORY. So he did what he needed to do. He made perfect the one who leads those people to salvation. He made Jesus a perfect Savior through his SUFFERING.”

He became the son of man, that you might become a son of God.

He suffered what you were meant to suffer that you might enjoy His glory.

Through the Gospel God has *“…called you unto HIS KINGDOM and GLORY.”* (1 Thessalonians 2:12).

He has called you OUT of Egypt a land of toils and struggles INTO the real Canaan, Christ, the place of our rest.

He has called you OUT of the dominion of Satan INTO the dominion of Love. (Colossians 1:13).

He has called you OUT of suffering INTO glory.

◾️ *_No Longer Short Of The Glory Of God* (Its been restored)

Romans 3:23 KJV
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”

We are all sinned when Adam sinned, and became sinners. In the same way, we all become righteous by the righteousness of Christ.

Romans 5:19 says, “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” We are no longer sinners; we have been made righteous by the obedience of Christ. Glory to God!

The sin of Adam made us come short of the glory of God – that life of rest before the fall.

The righteousness of Christ has restored us into His glory – the struggle is over – it’s time to rest. Hallelujah!

◾️Called To Obtain Glory (Called into His rest)

The Gospel isn’t just about heaven, it’s also about the life we live on this earth and on the earth which is to come – it’s a calling to the obtaining of glory: “Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 2:14 ).

◾️ The Sufferings Of Christ, And The Glory That Should Follow (Live in the glory)

Salvation is an all-encompassing word that encapsulates all that God wrought for us in Christ: righteousness, life, health, prosperity, abundance, etc; it is the rest that Christ has given us; it is the glory that everyone who believes in Jesus is called to enjoy.

1 Peter 1:10-11 KJV
[10] Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

[11] Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did g signify, when it testified beforehand the SUFFERINGS of Christ, and the GLORY THAT SHOULD FOLLOW.

The prophets of old prophesied of the kind of suffering Christ was going to have to endure, and the glory that was to come after His sufferings. He suffered for your sake. He was your substitute. He suffered so He could usher you into His glory.

◾️ All Is Settled; Rest! (His power has provided everything you need)

Christianity is living In the glory. When you are in the glory, you are at rest, you are not burdened by anything, all is settled: “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2).

Let’s break it down: TWO KINDS OF REST (Past 2)

His divine power (not our power) has given (not will give) unto us (that includes you) all things (not “something”) that pertain unto life and godliness (whatever you need for the life God planned for You, His power has provided), but His power works and manifests what He has given only through the knowledge of Him (the more you know Him, and what He did for you, the more you can experience the rest that He has given you) that called us to glory (not to suffering) and virtue (not sinful living).

◾️ How To Receive GIVEN-REST(Believe)

Come to Jesus and receive. Hebrews 11:6 says you should come believing.

Hebrews 4:3 GNT
“We who believe, then, do receive that rest…”

Sin and its effects and consequences have no dominion over someone who has believed in the finished works of Christ.

When you believe in Christ and in the work He did for you, you enter into that which He accomplished for you and rest from your own struggles – you are saved. Your own works could not save you, so He worked to save you.

No matter what is burdening your heart right now, you can find rest in Christ.
